"Mummy  Make-over"

A "mummy makeover" typically refers to a combination of surgical and/or non-surgical procedures designed to restore a woman's body after childbirth and breast-feeding.

Common desired procedures:

  • “Breast-lift” (mastopexy) with/with-out breast implants (breast augmentation). Also, sometimes combined with fat-grafting. Some women experience doubling, tripling or even more growth of their breast size during pregnancy and breast-feeding. The rapid expansion followed by shrinkage after breast-feeding is over, leaves the breasts looking deflated like hanging sacs. The aim here is to lift, improve the shape and restore volume and support to the breasts.
  • “Tummy Tuck” (abdominoplasty) to remove excess loose skin and fat from the abdomen. Some women do not realise they have separation of the rectus abdominis muscles and wonder why they still have a bulge even after losing all the pregnancy weight. During consultation, Dr Pearlie will examine you, and if the separation of the muscles (diastasis recti) are significantly felt i.e. 3-4 finger-breadths, she will often advise and plan for repair of these muscles during the abdominoplasty.
  • Rib shaping. Due to the flaring of the lower rib-cage during pregnancy, the frame of the abdomen will be altered. Rib shaping procedures can help with improvement in the waist-line by narrowing the rib-cage width.

With modern aesthetic surgery, your ideal of beauty and wellness can be met.

Why would I want a “mummy make-over?”

  • For better physical comfort: Some women may experience physical discomfort due to changes in body structure, such as back and neck pain from enlarged sagging breasts, discomfort from weakened abdominal muscles and from excess hanging abdominal skin.
  • Boost self-confidence: Many women feel self-conscious about their bodies after giving birth. They avoid wearing the clothes they used to wear before pregnancy due to the bulges and sagging parts. Surgical and some non-surgical procedures can lift and even-out the areas of concern so patients feel comfortable and willing to wear the clothes they enjoy wearing again.
  • Emotional well-being: Feeling good about your appearance can positively affect your emotional well-being. A mother’s emotional well-being is most important for her and the family she cares for.
  • Save time: Instead of recovering from multiple separate procedures, a mummy makeover allows for multiple surgeries to be done at once, potentially reducing overall recovery time.

Each mummy makeover is customized to meet the individual needs and goals of the patient.

Dr Pearlie will discuss options, expectations, and any potential risks with you to decide on the most suitable procedures for you.
