While most body contouring procedures are cosmetic in nature, in Singapore, body contouring post massive-weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) is medisave-claimable.

What procedures are considered under body contouring?

“Tummy Tuck” (abdominoplasty) with or without liposuction to remove excess loose skin and fat from the abdomen.
Liposuction-only to the abdomen. Some patients have stubborn areas of fat like “love-handles”, “muffin top” etc.. despite an active life-style and will request for liposuction to better define their body-shape.
Reduction of upper arm “bat-wings” (brachioplasty). Rapid or significant weight loss can cause the skin to stretch and not fully contract back to its original shape. Some slim patients have disproportionately flabby upper arms and may want liposuction to improve the shape and contour of their arms to look more attractive in sleeve-less clothing.
Thighs reduction usually with liposuction or liposuction-only. Some patients have awkward deposition of fat in their thighs which lead to chaffing or irregular bulging in snug clothing and desire to improve and refine their thigh shape.
Localised removal of excess skin and fat bulges (lipectomies) e.g. “bra-rolls”, back rolls and “mini-tummy tuck”.
Liposuction and/or excision gynecomastia. Men may have a condition called “gynecomastia” also known as “man boobs”/”moobs”. It can affect one or both breasts, and usually cause female-appearing breasts. Men with this condition often feel self-conscious and may feel embarrassed to take their shirt off during holidays, teenagers fear ridicule during NS, and some even develop a hunched posture as they feel their breast and nipples can be seen through their T-shirts. Unfortunately, diet, weight loss, and exercise will not get rid of gynecomastia and almost all gynecomastia will require liposuction with or without open excision.

While surgery is often the most effective way to perform body contouring, for some patients, non-surgical methods can sometimes provide satisfactory results.
